Captain Meryl Getline flew for the airlines starting in 1977. The final 20 years of her piloting career was with a major international airline, and her final assignment was flying the B-777 as captain on both domestic and international routes. She is the author of her autobiography The World at my Feet as well as Flights of Whimsy, a collection of aviation quotes, and wrote a weekly column for usatoday.com, Ask The Captain, from 2004 to 2006. Her celebrity resulted in numerous writing and speaking engagements, and she retired well ahead of the mandatory retirement age in 2005 at age 53. Her books may be found at www.fromthecockpit.com in the Cool Gifts section.
While flying
at her airline, Cap'n Meryl met Captain Al Carmickle and they
ultimately married. Captain Al is the one captain of the
Captains Fund who is not also a trader. His talents are in the
design and upkeep of various websites, two of which he created for
Cap'n Meryl:
www.fromthecockpit.com and
www.flyingfearless.com.

After leaving the airline, Cap'n Meryl decided to pursue trading the stock market and also engaged in options trading, something she'd been interested in and able to do throughout her aviation career. She became interested in FOREX trading after first learning about it in 2006. She bought several software packages and subsequently developed her own proprietary trading methods, soon becoming the #1 trader at her brokerage.
As her
trading records became somewhat well-known among other FOREX
traders, she started getting business proposals with regard to
trading for others. One of these was in the form of a phone
call from Glyn Taylor, who also happened to be a retired airline
pilot. Glyn was a captain for Eastern Airlines and later
became a captain for an international airline after Eastern ceased
operations. He was based in
Hong Kong as a B-747-400 captain and later became a corporate pilot for one of
the wealthiest individuals in the world. He flew the Super B-727-200 for this corporation.
One thing Glyn has in common with Al and Meryl (and a surprising number of Captains Fund investors) is a highly unpleasant experience and a loss of substantial amounts of money to unscrupulous individuals who make a trade of scamming others of their hard-earned cash. Together we decided we would help anyone else who'd experienced similar losses and who placed their trust and funds with us.
It is the intent of the Captains Fund to establish a philanthropic fund without charge which will benefit various individuals, causes and organizations. When this fund becomes a reality, information will be posted on this site for individuals and organizations interested in participating in such a fund, which will be commission-free.
